Who We Are

YouMeWe is a Tokyo-based non profit organization that is solely dedicated to nurturing and supporting local students from institutionalized homes. For a decade, our NPO’s mission is to assist students in becoming fully independent as they reach the age of 18, such as gaining financial literacy.

YouMeWe (ユー・ミー・ウィー) は、東京に本拠地を置き、10年以上にわたり各地の児童養護施設を支援している非営利団体です。施設で育った子どもたちが、１８歳で、大学や、専門職業学校、又は就職を迎え施設を離れる時に、 大人として自立し、将来、地域で貢献する一市民として社会へ羽ばたいていかれるよう支援をするのが YouMeWe の使命です。

The difficulties that the 30,000 children are facing are financial limitations, which may pose a barrier to their education, as well as post-traumatic stress, often stemming from poverty, abuse, and neglect. These students living in institutionalized homes across Japan are supported by our small but yet very dedicated staff. Specifically, the ratio of staff members to students is often 1 adult to 6 students. By providing guidance-based support programs, we ensure that it will improve the lifestyle and success for these students, translating into a positive future!

日本でおよそ３万人の子ども達が、児童養護施設で生活しています。施設では、献身的な職員が子どもを見守る一方、職員１人に対する子どもの数が多いところで６人になるのが現実です。子ども達は、施設内で実際の家庭になるべく近づけた環境が提供されていますが、一方で、学校生活や進学、将来の人生設計など、一般家庭にあるような細かい学習支援や一対一の心のケアが簡単には受けられないのが現実です。また、子どもたちの多くは、虐待や貧困といった状況から心に傷を負い、心理的外傷ストレス障害(PTSD)と向かいながら暮らしています。また、沢山の子供達が、進学に必要なお金や塾などへ通うお金が無く、金銭的な困難にも直面しています。

将来、子ども達が自立し社会で貢献していく一市民として成長できるよう、私たちは、進学や就職において、継続して教育的に導くサポートプログラムを提供しています。成功体験を積むことで、子ども達は多岐にわたる人生の選択肢と自由を得て明るい未来へ一歩を進めることができるのです。

Our NPO creates programs that promote:

YouMeWeでは以下のような支援を行っています。

• Digital literacy, expanding their technical skills and keeping them current with today’s technology and unlocking more options for secondary education or a job.

  最新のテクノロジーを学び、デジタル・リテラシーを高めることで、学習や将来の仕事の現場で役立つ能力を身につける事ができます。

• Communication skills through language lessons, writing programs, cultural exchanges and engaging in a summer arts camp.

  言語学習や、国際交流、夏のアートキャンプを通して、子供達が自信を持って自らを表現し、他者を受け入れながら前向きに意思疎通をしていく力を養います。

• Connectedness, collaborating with others in the community and around the world through mentoring programs and online exchange programs.

  企業で活躍する人や世代を越えた社会人に支えられるメンタープログラム、インターネットでの国際交流等を通して、世界的な広い視点から沢山の人々と繋がり社会との接点を増やす取り組みをしています。
